Cody Pickrodt explores issues of human behavior and attempts to define what motivates people through his paint, ink and collage works on paper, comics, and large-scale wall drawings.
Drawing is essential to my understanding of all the great mysteries in life. It is often necessary to draw what you’re thinking and feeling in order to manifest what’s been brewing inside. It makes everything official when you put pen to paper. It is proof. And it is an outline for any great endeavor, like a passport to immortality. Really, drawing is magical.
In addition, Pickrodt also utilizes various other forms of expression in his mission.
Drawing is a great starting point. Comics, writing, and illustration usually don’t require the assistance of other people, and when it comes to expressing a message in a deeply personal manner, they are highly effective. However, sometimes the message demands an alternative medium. Performance, film, video and music fill this need. All art is the quest for truth, and all methods are a means to connect with people. Certain projects call for the appropriate tools, which in most cases are dictated by the audience’s tastes. If you want to reach people, you’ve got to grow tentacles. The trick is not to get too creepy.
